Hello foodies!
So today’s recipe won’t be the dish of the year, I know… But it might add a fun touch to your desserts, cakes, or even your holiday tables!
I’m bringing you candied oranges.
Simple and effective
I said it’s not the recipe of the year, but coated in chocolate, these candied oranges are absolutely delicious!!
Choose organic oranges if possible, since we keep the peel on during cooking. Or at least make sure to clean your orange thoroughly before using it.
Your cooking options for candied oranges
I wanted to use them as decoration on a tart, so I started looking up recipes. Overall, there are two main methods: oven or microwave.
My cooking choice: the microwave
In the oven, it takes several hours. Since I just needed a decorative element, I wasn’t thrilled about tying up my oven for so long. So I went for the microwave. And it’s kind of a first for me because I never cook with the microwave! Apart from reheating pasta or warming milk for my brioche, I don’t use it much, I must admit…
A quick recipe
In just 12 minutes of cooking, you’ll have your candied oranges… So I’m not going to ramble on about it for too long…
The tools you’ll need:
A mandoline to get nice, evenly sliced orange pieces
And a microwave-safe container with a lid — here I used a Pyrex.
And if you love oranges or citrus fruits in general, check out my citrus and ginger salad, my Easter chocolate citrus shells, or my orange, cardamom and vanilla Valentine’s cake.
Shall we get started?
The recipe, Chef!
Wash your orange and slice it thinly. Mix the water and sugar in your microwave-safe container. Add the orange slices and close the lid. Microwave at 800 W for about 6 minutes. Flip the slices over, close the container again, and microwave for another 6 minutes. Let them cool on a wire rack.Candied Oranges
